Town Hall comes to the 9th District of Michigan
Well, I attended (or should I say tried to attend) the town hall meeting given by our congressman. I was locked out, some said (and I cannot confirm this ) that at 3:30 2 buses loaded with people pulled up and they got in line (the meeting was scheduled for 6 PM. If that is true it effectively kept the working people from getting inside, however, I will repeat I could not confirm this information.
At any rate there were many people outside of the building, some from our side and some from the other side and I engaged a few people in conversation. My conclusion from all this is forget the other side there is not a damn thing you can or will ever do to change their minds, they are convinced that they are right no matter what anyone says. Here is a perfect example over and over they told me "We have terrible health care in the United States", so I would ask "So you our saying our doctors and nurses are doing a terrible job"..... they would say "I didn't say that". Well I would like to know who they are talking about because as far as I know they are the ones providing the care. If anyone reading this can help me to understand how we are getting bad care but the providers are doing an excellent job please enlighten me, I don't get it.
One of the people I talked to (from the other side) complained that because of the Patriot Act she couldn't go to Canada because she had been arrested by the police at an antiwar demonstration, as far as I know that would not be a felony and would not effect you legal status no more then a speeding ticket might (so this is a lie she used to excuse what I wasn't to sure). Not to say I didn't hear any stories coming from our side because I heard them stretching and exaggerating the truth as well. The worst of the day was a guy who I was discussing it with trotted out the race card on me and anyone that knows me can imagine things didn't go well from that point. I left at that point so I can still go to Canada (if you get my drift).
What did I learn from this, a couple things I will now share (as if anyone really cares) 1. Never lose your temper when your son is holding a video camera (although he did need to know that somethings should never be allowed to just pass by, or the 12th General Order for Marines (there are only 11 I know) Walk my post from flank to flank and take no s*** from any rank. 2. The people we must convince are the people in the middle, those who are not liberal, but are not necessarily conservatives. However, I don't think we do this by weakening our values but by showing them why our values lead to better outcomes.
This battle is the last stand against the statist mentallity we must take back the congress (conservatives I mean) in 2010 and they must do everything they can to roll back this craziness not just stop it from becoming worse like we have done for so many years.
